Pope Francis is, as you have heard me say before, the Spiritual Leader for the whole of Christendom. Please take a moment and really absorb the list and don’t read it too quickly or dismiss it too easily.
I would recommend doing one a day for ten days and then start over. As we often say at Chapel Hill, thanks to the inspiration of the late Dallas Willard, the gospel of grace is not opposed to effort, but is opposed to earning – a sense of “If I do this, God will do that, because God owes me.”
Also, keep a journal and log your successes and failures each day. For example, on day one, every time you feel tempted to gossip, think twice. And, record how your day went relative to issues of gossip. This is a helpful way to grow in grace. If you use your journal for self-condemnation, you can be assured you need to re-read Zephaniah 3:17 and John 3:17. The two sides of the same coin Good News!
