I was at the Catholic Care Center this past Sunday, leading the Sunday afternoon worship service. Janet Westwood of Chapel Hill plays the piano, Suzanne Schwarz and Larry Gustin often attend to connect with the residents. We provide a homily and Holy Communion on the third Sunday of each month, from 3:30-4:00 PM. You are always welcome to join us!
A few months back, I was introduced to Esther, 105 years of age, and her son, David. After the service, David told me he now attends the Church of Christ in midtown Wichita, but 35 years ago, he attended College Hill United Methodist Church when Rev. George Gardner was the pastor. David, who is 70 plus, told me that Rev. Gardner, each week, in every church bulletin, somewhere had the following statement:
“If you are going through a difficult time, remind yourself:”
–I am not alone
–I will not give up
–I can reach out to my friends
–God is everywhere I am!
I was amazed at Rev. Gardner’s profound statement and equally impressed by David’s ability to recall the four statements from memory with conviction in his voice. Perhaps you need to copy this for yourself or someone going through a difficult time.
