“Eat this book” is a metaphor for focusing our attention on what is involved in reading Sacred Scripture formatively, that is, in such a way that the Holy Spirit uses Scripture to form Christ in us & witnesses to us who we are “in Christ.” We are not interested in just knowing more but in becoming more.
