St. Arbucks Chapel – March 19, 2025
This past Sunday, I discussed the spiritual practice of lectio divina, which in Latin means “Divine reading.” Lectio is pronounced lexio.
Fear, worry and anxiety are part of life but we do not have to face the “Triple Whammy,” alone. Lectio Divina is a spiritual practice that helps us slow down, meditate on Scripture, and listen for God’s voice.
The goal is not to ignore fear or hardship—it is to become aware of God’s presence as we experience them. Select a Scripture like Psalm 27 or Psalm 63. You can select any passage of Scripture, but try to select a Psalm or a Gospel story.
Step 1: Pray
“Lord, I long to hear from You. Please speak to me through these words of Scripture. I’m listening, Lord.”
Step 2: Read Silently
Let the words settle in your heart.
Step 3: Read Aloud
Notice what words or phrases stand out to you. Pray: “Lord, speak to me; your servant is listening.”
Step 4: Read Again and Reflect
Sit with the passage in silence. Ask: What is God revealing to me? How is God speaking into my fears or struggles?
Step 5: Pray the Scripture
“Thank You, Lord, for Your presence and love. Please be my light and my salvation. Please help me not to be afraid. Help me remember that I don’t need to be afraid with You at my side.”
